Do you speak my language? duPont Manual’s art and literacy magazine, One Blue Wall, is looking for writing, art and photography focused on language and/or culture relating to being a first, second or third generation immigrant or person of color. Pieces that use AAVE or are bilingual are acceptable. Selected pieces will be published in a small magazine and distributed throughout Louisville with cash prizes for our favorites! Submit at onebluewallmagazine.com or email submissions to onebluewall@live.com. Contact Eli Pajo at eli.pajo@manualjc.com for more information.
We will be continuing the great tradition of The Graduation Keynote Address Competition that was kicked off in 2014 by the first winner, Christopher Bird. All students interested in being the voice of the class of 2019 are encouraged to audition. We are looking for creativity, character, and charisma.
Here are some of the details:
· Speeches must remain within a 5-minute timeframe.
· Feel free to be creative and think of this as a spoken word poem or performance. (Can you be innovative and devise a spoken word for two voices? Yes, that means you may have a partner.)
· An electronic copy of the speech must be emailed to Ms. Williams by March 8th or the student will be disqualified.
· Seniors must email Ms. Williams, from February 25 to March 7, to schedule a specific audition time.
· All auditions will occur on March 12th while the juniors take the ACT and seniors have a potential day of service.
Anyone interested should come pick up an information packet in room 352 before school, after school, or during Red 1. Be sure to leave your name and an email address with Ms. Williams so she can contact you in the future.
