Communication Media Arts Application Requirements

NEW APPLICATION MATERIAL REQUIRED BY THE ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE

All Manual application materials are due at duPont Manual by January 13, 2012 unless otherwise noted.

1. Please make a copy of submitted materials, since they will not be returned.
2. Enrollment is limited.
3. Submission of an application does not guarantee placement in a program or school.
4. Please use our checklist to ensure your application is complete before mailing or delivery to Manual High School.

CMA Application Code: 200/MGC

1. I. JCPS application material (must be completed before Manual can process your application)
2. 1. A completed application form* designating the desired magnet program (mailed or delivered to the JCPS office of Optional, Magnet, and Advance Programs on Newburg Rd. by January 6, 2012).
3. II. Manual application material (application packet must be complete. No incomplete packets will be accepted.)
4. 1. A writing portfolio quality essay, composed and written by the applicant, in response to the following question .
      "Communications" is a multi-faceted magnet, including broadcast journalism, print journalism, photojournalism, graphic arts, advertising, and public relations. Write a letter to the admissions committee indicating which facet of communications you find most interesting, why you find it interesting, and what experiences you have had which have helped prepare you for that area.
   2. A completed activities and interest survey* form which describes the applicant's activities, volunteer work, awards, and recognitions--especially those that relate to the desired magnet program .
   3. Two completed recommendation forms* from teachers (one must be the English teacher), a counselor, a principal, or any adult familiar with the applicant's abilities, work and commitment .
   4. A copy of the applicant's school transcript which should include middle school attendance data, achievement test scores (CAT-5, CTBS, Stanford), advance program test scores, CATS scores, past grades, and current progress report .
   5. Attendance at a 60-minute on-demand writing assessment at Manual High School on one of the following dates:

Students MUST bring pencil, paper, and some form of photo identification (school ID, TARC ID, state-issued ID, most recent yearbook, etc.).
