Advocacy Update

Please be aware of these upcoming opportunities:

1. The State Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education will meet this Wednesday, November 15 from 9 am to 3 pm ET in Room 514, 300 Sower Blvd, in Frankfort. See news release for more information and agenda, and please consider attending. Note: Manual has more GT students (1518 – 80% in 2016/17) than any other school in the state – including Craft and Gatton – combined, actually! We should have representation on the Council. In spite of this statistic, we’ve had just ONE teacher with an EPSB endorsement for teaching GT: Mrs. Strohmayer, ECE department chair. The GT endorsement provides additional training in instructional design and how to meet the needs of talented students – including social/emotional. Under state law, GT students are technically ECE students.

2. Charter Schools. A public hearing on the following proposed administrative regulations will be held on November 21 at 10 am, Room 116, 300 Sower Blvd, Frankfort. Individuals interested in being heard at this hearing shall notify this agency in writing by 5 workdays prior to the hearing, of their intent to attend. If no notification of intent to attend the hearing is received by that date, the hearing may be cancelled. This hearing is open to the public. Any person who wishes to be heard will be given an opportunity to comment on the proposed administrative regulation. See KDE’s website for more info.

3. The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking feedback on proposed Bible Literacy Standards. See news release for further information.
