Manual’s College & Career Center – also known as the CCC – is hopping these days. Did you know that during the months of September and October we will have over 100 colleges visit our school? College representatives from large and small schools, public and private, across the United States, visit Manual each year hoping to attract our students to their universities. It is a fabulous way for our kids, particularly our juniors and seniors, to connect with admission reps – ask questions, learn about their campus, inquire about scholarships and financial opportunities, etc. We already have schools like Yale, Duke, USC, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, UK, and WKU scheduled to visit. Interested in the Military? U.S. Naval Academy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Army personnel typically pop by too. Check out the CCC calendar to see when your favorite college will be here.
Our PTSA is completely volunteer driven and our success is due to those who generously give their time and talents to our organization. If you take a minute to view the video produced by J+C junior Olivia Evans here, and the slide show produced by HSU Senior Austin Kline here, you will begin to understand the vital role we serve within the Manual community.
We have two positions left to fill for next school year:
- Attends monthly PTSA meetings OR reads minutes to learn about school-related news, activities, events, etc.
- Coordinates (with content contributors) obtaining information from magnet programs, school staff, etc. and writes/edits/formats content as needed
- Alerts volunteer photographers of PTSA/school events and ensures photos are stored on PTSA drive and accessible to Historian/4th VP
- Assists Digital News and Social Media Coordinators as needed
- This position is strongly supported by the 4th VP (Executive Board) and will hopefully transition into that role the following year
Social Media Coordinator(s)
- Works closely with Communications Team to post/re-post updates to PTSA social media channels (can choose Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, or multiple)
Email Trish Kline of your interest.
Ms. Leslie, one of our Guidance Counselors, is looking for volunteers to monitor and assist with AP Exams, May 1-12. Volunteers will be checking student IDs and seats, circulate the room to monitor and distribute additional items (replacement pencils, tissues, etc.), as well as collect and organize materials upon completion. Volunteers may also be asked to sit at the door to insure that other students do not enter the testing area. Testing may take place in the large gym with several hundred students, in rooms with 5 to 50 kids, or offsite at the Kentucky Expo Ctr Southwing fairgrounds (APHG). Please sign up here to volunteer for one or more exam slots if possible. Wear comfortable (and quiet) shoes and dress warmly, as some rooms are quite chilly.
** Please do NOT sign up for a test that your child will be taking.**

Did you know that Manual’s College and Career Center (CCC) located in the Guidance Office is visited by more than 100 college admission representatives every Fall? Now is the time, especially for Seniors, to make a connection with the colleges that they are considering applying to. Each visit lasts anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour. Students are encouraged to drop by, meet the rep, pick up information, and ask questions. Many times, students are unsure what to ask. Below is a list of potential questions to help stimulate dialogue with the rep.
The process for attending a college rep visit in the CCC is simple: Bring in a parent note and ask your teacher one class period ahead of time if you can be excused to visit the CCC. Any classwork missed will be your responsibility to make up. If you have a test or something important where you cannot attend the visit, simply pop by the CCC later that day and pick up a brochure. The college rep typically leaves their contact information and you can then reach out to them at your convenience via email or phone. Click here to view the CCC calendar.
Manual’s College & Career Center (CCC) is off to a jump start with our first college rep visit this Tuesday, August 30th. This week, we have 4 colleges visiting: Johns Hopkins, Salem College (NC), Murray State University (KY), and Butler University (IN). The procedure to attend is simple:
- Student provides a parent note and asks permission from their teacher 1 class period ahead (2 days prior).
- Student is responsible for any missed classwork/notes.
All students are welcome to attend the 1 hour sessions. They can stay the whole time OR for only 5 minutes to exchange contact information with the rep and pick up a brochure.
