#ThankATeacher Win For Manual

#ThankATeacher graphic

Thanks to a submission by Min Jiang, Manual was selected as a 1st place winner in the National PTA #ThankATeacher Contest sponsored by Google Express. We received credits worth up to $2,500 to order goodies to stock our teacher lounges. Among the things we were able to add to both the Manual and YPAS lounges:

  • Keurig coffee maker, storage drawers, and large supply of K-cups
  • Toaster oven
  • Sandwich grill
  • Electric kettle
  • Handheld vacuum
  • Charging station
  • Boxes and boxes of snacks, some of which are pictured below

The PTSA is separately working on getting the carpet replaced in the main teacher’s lounge as it is aged and needs replacing.

We Need YOU! PTSA Seeks Board Members

Our PTSA is completely volunteer driven and our success is due to those who generously give their time and talents to our organization. If you take a minute to view the video produced by J+C junior Olivia Evans here, and the slide show produced by HSU Senior Austin Kline here, you will begin to understand the vital role we serve within the Manual community.

We have two positions left to fill for next school year:

Communications Chair

  • Attends monthly PTSA meetings OR reads minutes to learn about school-related news, activities, events, etc.
  • Coordinates (with content contributors) obtaining information from magnet programs, school staff, etc. and writes/edits/formats content as needed
  • Alerts volunteer photographers of PTSA/school events and ensures photos are stored on PTSA drive and accessible to Historian/4th VP
  • Assists Digital News and Social Media Coordinators as needed
  • This position is strongly supported by the 4th VP (Executive Board) and will hopefully transition into that role the following year

Social Media Coordinator(s)

  • Works closely with Communications Team to post/re-post updates to PTSA social media channels (can choose Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, or multiple)

Email Trish Kline of your interest.

Key Club Members Compete at DCON

Key Club DCON 2017

Thirty of Manual’s Key Clubbers recently joined Key Club members from across the Kentucky-Tennessee District in Gatlinburg for the District Convention. Ms. Erin Moss, Key Club sponsor and science teacher, shared that students participated in leadership workshops and service projects, and got to see some of Gatlinburg. While there, three of our students ran for district office (Ayush Halder, Minh Phuc Tran, and Aafreen Shaik), but unfortunately were unsuccessful in their bid. Manual Key Club competed for recognition among the other clubs in various areas as did individual students.

Our many Manual Key Club winners are here:

Clothing Assistance Program Volunteers Needed For January 11

CAP Volunteers

duPont Manual sends volunteers at least twice a year to help at the JCPS Clothing Assistance Program (CAP). CAP is a 15th District PTSA agency, which provides a place for families to come and pick out much needed gently-used clothing and new school uniforms, so that no student ever misses school and no parent ever misses work due to a lack of appropriate clothing. CAP is located behind Central High School Stadium at 319 South 15th Street, Louisville, KY 40203.

CAP needs volunteers to help sort, hang and arrange donated clothing. Sometimes, volunteers also help JCPS parents find clothing items for their families. The first volunteer day this year is Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Click here to sign up to volunteer. Contact Jill Jelsma, Betsy Johnson, or Becky Mosley if you have any questions.
