First dMHS School Safety Meeting Summary

Safe School Zone

In response to the recent gun violence in Florida and Marshall County high schools, the first Safety Committee meeting was held at Manual on March 29. Principal Mayes and Asst. Principal Kuhn facilitated the meeting. A handout was distributed which included specific recommendations from a retired Secret Service Agent. The meeting attendees commented on these suggestions, and also made recommendations of their own.

New Engineering Pathway Program To Be Offered

A new engineering elective will be available with the 2018-2019 academic year. A 4-year pathway program will expose students to engineering and prepare them for engineering and technology courses in college. The elective courses will provide students with hands-on projects in engineering design, mechanics, robotics, computer integrated manufacturing, civil construction and design, alternative energy, bioengineering, and aerospace engineering.

Science Fair Documentary Selected For 2018 Sundance Film Festival

You may remember seeing a film crew at Manual last spring. Science Fair, a documentary film by Cristina Costantini, follows nine students from around the world on their journey to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). One of the nine ISEF-hopefuls followed in the film is Manual’s own Anjali Chadha (MST junior), pictured above. Science Fair was one of 110 films selected among the 14,000 Sundance submissions! The world premiere will be January 21st and 23rd in Park City, UT.
