In addition to all the fun activities and traditions that go on during Red/White Week, one especially meaningful event is the Manual/Male Collection Challenge. Each year, the two schools compete to see who can raise the most for charity. In last year’s challenge, Manual beat Male by donating almost 2,000 pairs of socks to the Clothing Assistance Program at JCPS (beating Male by about 100 pairs of socks).
This year we want a repeat and we have until this Friday (October 19) to make it happen! We are collecting new and used shoes for WaterStep, an organization dedicated to providing safe water to communities in developing countries.By donating your new and gently used shoes to WaterStep, you’ll help fund safe drinking water projects all over the world – projects that help save hundreds of thousands of lives each year. In addition to funding water projects, donated shoes keep hundreds of tons of waste out of our landfills.
Specially marked WaterStep bins are located at various entrances throughout the school. As well, donations may be placed in any of the CAP bins located by the cafeteria, front door, VA Annex, and YPAS. Please drop off all shoes in the various bins BEFORE Friday at noon. Volunteers will be at the school on Friday counting the donations and the winner will be announced at the football game on Friday night.
So, let’s use this opportunity to clean out our closets and get rid of all those old shoes that are just taking up space, all while supporting a great organization. In addition to shoes, Manual is also collecting gloves and mittens for the Clothing Assistance Program, which has a great need for gloves/mittens this year. They can be dropped in any of the bins along with the shoes. Let’s Go Manual. Beat Male!!!
