Ashton Jones won first prize (click for story) in the High School Division of the 2017 Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation Student Art Contest, presented by The Fillies, Inc. As a first place winner, she receives a 2017 framed Festival Poster by 2017 Official Poster Artist Ron Jasin, as well as a chance to appear in the 2017 Republic Bank Pegasus Parade. All winners receive a medallion, certificate, T-shirt, and a Student Art Contest winner’s pin. Their teachers received special recognition at the awards ceremony. The Festival has offered this opportunity for area students to showcase their creative skills since 1977. The original artwork by area students will be on display at the Republic Bank Pegasus Parade Preview Party beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2.

Addie Clark is the grand prize winner (click for story) in the Kentucky Derby Museum’s Horsing Around With Art Contest: “A Student’s View of the Sport of Kings.” Addie’s piece was chosen from over 200 entries and was judged to best capture the spirit of the Kentucky Derby. Addie won six box tickets to the 143rd Kentucky Derby, a plaque, ribbon and certificate. Our VA department will receive $500 for art supplies. Addie’s artwork will be framed and displayed at Kentucky Derby Museum where it will remain for one year.
