Welcome Back Note from Mr. Lattimore

Welcome Back Note from Mr. Lattimore

duPont Manual/YPAS Parents,

Welcome to the start of the 2018-19 school year. My name is Kirk Lattimore and I am the interim principal at duPont Manual/YPAS. During this time of transition to new leadership, I want to assure you that the school is off to a great start and the traditions of excellence and high standards will be maintained. I am a retired JCPS assistant superintendent, principal, assistant principal, and teacher. For the past two years, I have been a National School Leadership Coach for principals. I currently teach principal certification courses and teacher initial certification courses at Spalding University.

Our five-day enrollment was 1,946 students. This number was over the projected enrollment and represents one of the largest number of students in the school at one time. Keeping this large enrollment in mind, I have had the pleasure to meet and talk with hundreds of students over the past couple of weeks. During these discussions, I have appreciated the students’ clear sense of purpose and enthusiasm for being at school. I spend a significant amount of my time in classrooms and move throughout the campus on a frequent basis. I enjoy talking to students and staff, and hopefully your child will be able to say “I saw Mr. Lattimore” at some point in the day, every day.

It has been a pleasure working with the entire staff. They are extremely professional, competent, and have a sincere commitment to developing well-rounded students. It is very obvious to me that their hard work and dedication have created and maintained an excellent learning environment.

I want to thank the parents for entrusting us to educate their children during their high school careers. We take this responsibility seriously and will work extremely hard to help ensure each student has an excellent duPont Manual/YPAS experience as well as achieve their goals and aspirations beyond high school.

Finally, I want to thank the PTSA for their continual support for the students and staff at duPont Manual/YPAS. The breakfast during the opening days was excellent, the support during registration was tremendous, and the numerous other things the PTSA has done so far this year was truly appreciated. Thanks again!
