Scholarships and Opportunities: Week of Oct. 25

Carson Scholars Fund:

The Carson Scholars Fund awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Scholarship winners receive the honor of being named “Carson Scholars” and are awarded an Olympic-sized medal and a trophy for their school to celebrate their accomplishments. Previous winners of Carson Scholarships are eligible to reapply for Carson Scholar Recognition annually – please visit the Current Scholar page for more information.

An interested student must be nominated by an educator at his or her school to be able to compete for a Carson Scholarship. Only one student from each school is able to apply, ensuring that each nominee epitomizes academic excellence. Carson Scholars must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and display humanitarian qualities through community service. Scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of academic achievement and humanitarian qualities, without regard to financial need, ethnicity, creed or religion.

If you wish to be considered for this scholarship opportunity, send Mr. Robinson a copy of your complete resume, GPA, and test scores, along with a statement (one page please) as to why you believe you should be Manual’s choice for nomination no later than November 4, 2015.

Anthony Quinn Scholarship Program:

Organized as a vehicle to perpetuate Anthony Quinn’s vision for an art conscious society, the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship Program raises and distributes funds for arts education. The Scholarship Program focuses on the Visual Arts & Design, Dance, Theatre, Singing, Instrumental, Media Arts, and Literary Arts for young adults in high school. Scholarship recipients can apply Foundation funds to any recognized pre-college, or summer intensive arts education program. Funds awarded will be sent directly to the pre-college, or summer intensive arts education program designated by the student. The Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship cannot be used for secondary school or college tuition.

Criteria

The Scholarship Program is for young adults in high school who demonstrate exceptional talent and dedication with a strong commitment to personal artistic growth and who will benefit from financial support. The Foundation makes an effort to distribute the funds evenly across the fields of focus: Visual Arts & Design, Dance, Theatre, Singing, Instrumental, Media Arts, and Literary Arts.

Scholarships are awarded competitively.  Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges in order to select scholarship recipients.  Judges are practicing artists, arts educators, and experts in the various fields of focus, completely independent from the Foundation’s Board/staff, and geographically dispersed throughout the United States. Maximum scholarship award is $2500.

The application period will open on Thursday, October 15, 2015.  The applicant must provide a nominator, and a recommender (a teacher, advisor, or other adult outside the applicant’s family) and parent/guardian form by Monday, November 30th deadline. A completed application, personal statement and work samples must be submitted by the deadline, Sunday, January 3rd, 2016.
